Trade deadline data shows # of trades has fallen dramatically at the deadline in the last 4 years. Obviously this isn't the totality of all NHL trade activity, but it also shows that adding the retained salary rule didn't blow the flood gates open for trading either. www.tsn.ca/tradecentre/feature/?id=10407Part of the reason is that the league-wide cumulative cap space and the total cap hits doesn't change, only the distribution does. Eventually as cap space becomes more scarce (say after a few of these re-distributive deals occur), the price to take on salary will get higher. I feel like we have enough tools already that the NHL doesn't have to mitigate cap issues. If those still aren't good enough, then it's decision time. I might have to trade a high salary guy for future assets even though I am trying to win right now. For me, that is most of the fun of playing a salary cap fantasy league. Hey Davey, are you having fun in this league ? Is you are then that's all that matter.

I understand even if someone is having fun and loving it the way it is. We can always improve it. So what do you think we should do to improve this league ?

I appreciate both sides in this debate.
I voted for allowing the trading of salary, just because it does increase trading opportunities and strategy.
But I understand the other side; the NHL has cut back on burying people in the minors, and we haven't done that.
So, as I say, I appreciate both sides of this debate.

I would certainly be more open to the idea of salary retention in trades if we adjusted other features that make offloading bad cap hits too easy.
I would institute a maximum games played for minors eligibility and have a "buyout" for bad contracts instead.

yea I'd like to do away with "player hiding" as well. Like I did that for the playoffs to help me win. I called up Campbell waiver when Kaner was hurt.

I would be open to something like this but i don't know how to do it or exactly what you mean

In other leagues that have minor leagues, I've seen rules whereby a player is no longer eligible to be in the minors after, say, 164 games played in the NHL. At that point you would be forced to either promote (or keep promoted if he was already on the main roster), waive, or trade the player.
AS for buyouts, I think it would be fairly simple, each team would be entitled to X buyouts per year, have a buyout window period in the summer, and then spread 2/3rd of the cap hit over 2X the remaining length of the contract, like the NHL does. Or we could create our own variation.

I would be ok with this but maybe make the games played 180 and the buyout period could be before the waiver draft making them have more value and making it more interesting as well as for how much cap hit a buyout would be i don't know how much is fair but the NHL standard sound fine
