Unless there is something setup to be reoccurring every year, I don't think a one time help does anything except set a bad precedent.
Teams seem to fluctuate in here from what I've heard. My roster was in 7th last season and at the bottom this season because of a bad goalie trade and some underperforming/injured players. Zagreb was low last year because of an injury to Rinne, this year he's competing. I'm sure there are plenty more teams that went from one extreme to the other quickly too.
I considered taking on the Richmond roster before I found out this one was available knowing it would be a long rebuild but good rebuilds are done slowly. It's going to be a long rebuild but with patience, that team can certainly be rebuilt. He has a future starting goalie so if he plays his cards right, makes some nice deals to inject youth and picks by selling off vets, and hits on his high draft picks, he could be sitting pretty in a few years. It's not going to be a quick turnaround, but no rebuild is, otherwise it's just a retooling.

I would really like to hear Wil's thoughts on whether or not he thinks he can do something with his team as is, and if he is willing to be patient and try to turn the ship around without help.

I hope he does, as that is the team he accepted when joining the league.

I will be totally honest I really didn't want to voice my opinion on this matter. One I didn't want to sway anyone's opinion one way or the other and two I didn't want to ruffle any feathers. When Frank asked me to take over the team he gave me the original roster which include Kop, vok, etc so I was a tad mislead into just how bad the roster is.
Yes it is awful and it is what it is. I have not campaigned for this in anyways. Do I think there have be massive failures on many sides yes I do. Do I think the trade council failed yes I do b/c looking back IMO those were beyond awful trades.
Did the previous owner make some awful decisions yes he did. Did other owners take advantage of him in trades they sure as hell did but hey It is what it is. There wasn't one certain thing that tipped this over the edge it has been a series of them. Nothing is going to change that. Is a waiver draft going to really help this team no it is not.
It will take a long time to rebuild this roster and I made moves today to hopefully start that. Did I want to make all of the moves I made today? No I sure didn't but for the best overall future of my franchise I had to. It doesn't really matter what I say b/c there will be people on both sides. Can this roster use all the help it can get of course it could.
People will say I was given an unfair advantage and that has already been voiced here by people. Can I turn this team around idk. Do I hope to yes I do. Is a long rebuild any fun no not really but hey what else is there to do? Either way I didn't sign up to just quit so do whatever y'all think is best for the league b//c I'm not a me guy but I'm a TEAM guy. Sorry if this makes no sense blame it on me drinking......Cheers

I am going to place this discussion on our bucket list for the off-season when a decision will be made. In the meantime, keep discussing if you have an interesting angle to share.

Maybe time for my few thoughts..
First - I think we should help Will to improve his team, because it's not his fault that his team is in such bad shape and I think we are lucky that somebody wanted to take this team. How and - even better question - how much to help his team, that's hard task. After potential help where his team should be? I know the answer will be he should be competitive. But how competitive?
On the other side - we have 24 teams. If we were super competitive and equal it would take at least 24 years that everyone wins a league title. 24 years! But, that will not happen and we will have teams that miss the play-offs for x number of years and others that will win this league multiple times. Same as in the real world.
So, for me, the main question is, why we play in this league? To win, or to have fun, learn about hockey, players, other GMs and try to win. When I joined this league, this format was new to me, and Dave and Eric helped me and said just try and if it is not for you, you can always quit. After one and half year here, I learned so much, that I can now see how bad my draft was ... and there is lot of other things I would make different today.
After first season, I spoke with Dave about it, and he told just to try to improve... My team, my involvement here, everything.. I think I made it. Yes, it was maybe a small goal to reach, but I had fun with it. Maybe I was lucky with the team - but I have more free time now that I can spend here, and I have fun to be here. Odds that I will win this league in next several years are still slim, but that's not the main factor why I am here. But I will try to win it, be sure... And improve again next season :-)
I think this is right place and time to thank every single GM that I talked with, for help, understanding and nice time here! Thanks, friends!

Very well said Zig!!
Yes, it's nice to win, but for me it's all about learning and improving.
