What about Google Sheets for tracking? What have people been saying about that I can't even get Frank, a very dedicated manager, to agree to Google Sheets. It's just not his thing. It's also hit and miss getting people to post their cap situation each week.
In an ideal world, all managers would keep an up-to-date spreadsheet, with cap and other relevant info, in a form accessible to all league members. Right now, if I were to guess, I'd say one quarter or less of the league uses google sheets.

How do we know then who is cap compliant and who is over budget?

How do we know then who is cap compliant and who is over budget? We don't. And we never have, even when you were around. It's kinda a "scout's honour" type thing.
Also difficult to track if a person is exceeding 70 contracts, although Kelowna used to run a report on that once in awhile and inform people if they were mistakenly over the limit. That happened to me once!

What is the current appetite of the league? Do most GM's want to see rules strictly enforced? Kind of a catch 22: Penalty is remove all the points from that week. But, all that means is the GM gets to keep their waiver eligible player on the pro roster and have a higher draft pick at the end of the season. hmmm....seems breaking the rules is really good lol I would like to see a major tightening of rule enforcement. The rules are sound and well laid out, some are just difficult to enforce as Buffalo was mentioning regarding the salary cap. I was monitoring the compliance of waiver-exemptions and had a couple players put on waivers because of it. There's a host of rules being loosely followed, many have been mentioned above.

If they break the IFFHL rules, what is the penalty? The IFFHL rule says: "ROSTER Requirements:minimum 20, maximum 23 (at all times--if you go over or under you will lose any points accumulated the day(s) your roster is invalid)." But this rule is not enforced. GMs are leaving active players on IR, at times for several weeks, and continuing on...
An example, for illustrative purposes. Lehner is currently on IR for Helsinki, but has been active since January 15th. So that's what, 6 lock in periods? Helsinki's current bench has 3 goalies on it (the maximum), and 23 roster spots (the maximum). If our rules were enfored, Helsinki likely would be forced to send John Gibson down (he's waiver free), or he'd have to wavier Reimer or Bernier. He's had Gibson in his active line up these last 6 weeks...
And just to note that Commissioner Dave put Lehner on IR on behalf of Helsinki in late November January, and also promoted Gibson to the main team in early January.
And this is just one example. Look for yourself, there are more of them...

And particularly since it was a pretty tight race for the last playoff spot, every point counts. Kokanee/Long Island could be missing out on that 16th spot to Helsinki given this oversight. Given how big an impact goalies have in our format and how hot Anaheim has been down the stretch, could easily see this being the difference maker..

Count me on board with no contract limit. I use it in other leagues with no issues, but it has been in the rules there from day 1 and keeping track is a pain in the ass for alot of people. To implement it in here when there hasn't ever been one, even in small increments, would be a nightmare for those of us at the limit.

actually, I have a very detailed spreadsheet of all teams. I do admit i've been a little lax the past while keeping it up, but i will update it and post it shortly. last i checked i'm sure everyone was compliant.

If you have a database with everyone's roster and cap, maybe it makes sense to post this as a google doc. Perhaps we could get a few volunteers to help you so that all teams have accurate cap info at all times, via a single google.doc with 24 tabs. (of course, if you want to take on this responsibility for yourself, go nuts. It's just seems like a lot of work).

Two sheets could be done pretty quickly.
Copy and paste 100 players at a time off of General Fanager onto one sheet. (5 minutes)
Download all the players off of fantrax (with IFFHL team ownership) onto another sheet. (1 minute)
VLOOKUP the fantrax sheet to grab the General Fanager cap hits. (15 minutes)
Then just sort the spreadhseet by IFFHL team.
The hard part requiring volunteers is updating player status: active, reserve, minors, or IR so we know which players count for cap. Would be a full-time job for sure every week. Especially considering we can't even get GMs to update IRs good luck getting them to update another spreadsheet

I've never seen that sheet before, it's the first I've seen or heard of it.
It would make more sense to me if people were required to update that sheet, as opposed to just posting info into a thread...
