I wanted to propose the idea of a no trade rule for the initial draft.
The thought behind this is every team would have an equal chance to be competitive out of the gates. I think this may help keep GMs around longer and make it easier finding replacements as all the teams would initially be equally good. Trading would begin at the end of the initial draft.
Hope to get some feedback from all. Thanks!

I also didnt like in the other league people not picking since they were waiting to hear from GMs and hoping to trade their pick. All it accomplished was slowing things down and a couple controversial deals. Take who you want to take with your picks and then their will be plenty of time post-draft for trade discussions. It also eliminates the lop sided trades where a player might be valuing an unknown draft pick too much. Get everyone drafted and then teams can view their strengths and weaknesses and decide who to shop and who they would like to trade for.

I hope this is a joke!! I love making deals and I feel it's very important for any team to get their player. So at times to get those players you'll need to make a deal. So hopefully we are aloud to make deals when ever we want. I just hope we don't get dictate what we can and can't do. You can't aloud every trade but you can't vetoed everyone.

I think it is a valid point that all of us love making trades. And that's why I think if we are not careful it could get a bit crazy too early on. A good point was already made that it takes considerably more time to finish the draft when we are all negotiating trades at the same time. I think keeping it simple is a good way to start a successful and fun league! :-)

then why don't we do a time slot draft and just give those time slot one hour to pick. By doing that you only have one hour at most to negociate any deals. So that would solve everything. What you think guys?

Time slots is a good idea for drafting. I still think though our league quality would be improved by waiting till later to start trades! :-)

I disagree with that thought to be quite honnest. I feel that we need to have the option and not be discussing to take that option away. My goal as a gm will always win any deal but not to screw a gm. At times one gm will get the best player but the other gm will get something even better wich is getting the best overall team.
Here's a exemple;
Team B trade: 1st rounder (20th) + 2nd round (28th overall) + 5th rounder (116th)
Team A trade: 1st rounder (4th) + 3rd rounder(52) + 4th rounder (92)
That deal may would be a good deal.
But if a team does
1st (20th) + 2nd rounder + 3rd rounder
for
1st (4) + 10 + 15
Then this deal will be vetoed. We are not here to make unfair deals and rape anyone. But atleast have the chance to make such a deal.

You have very valid points and you seem to have a good head on your shoulders when thinking of trades. I sure hope no one is looking to screw each other in trades as this is a fun league.
I think the entry draft would be a good time to swap picks and players once we see what our teams look like.

If it's not too hard for the Admins to manage, I think we should be allowed to trade picks. Personally, I'm not gonna be doing it, but if someone wants to, they should be allowed to do it. It's their team and how they build it should be up to them. Also, I doubt there's any harm in allowing it. In the initial draft, all deals will be picks for picks and so I'm doubting much trading will be happening....

We just need to make fair deals and not try and rape the other gm. Also by letting everyone trade we can know who's gona be a good gm and not. If a gm is prepare to trade 2nd + 3rd + 4th for 1st (10th overall) + 10th _ 16th ten I believe that gm should be fired on the spot. We only want the best and making dumb deal is a big no no. But if the same gm did the following deal; 2nd + 3rd for 1st (10th) + 6th then that a fair enough to be aloud. We as mod will only vetoed the dumb deals, the deals that have one clear winner and loser.

i couldn't agree more, trades during the fantasy draft really slow things down and get guys upset. Guys will make a lot of mistakes trading up for a player they want. we saw that in he last league where guys (or just a particular guy) took advantage of some younger GMs
i refused to make trades during the draft. And it would be much easier if we couldnt make trades until the fantasy draft was complete.
I still think we should each pick a complete NHL team, thus, the need for the fantasy draft wouldn't be needed!

But it's probably too late now considering how teams are made and rules are set.

Just voted for trading draft picks once draft order is determined. It allows creative minds to wheel and deal right off the bat in a "fun" loving way. Nevertheless, im good to go either way we decide collectively.

It's hard to say. Personally, I have a hard time deciding. I can see the vailidity in just letting the draft run it's course. It'd be much more simple and you wouldn't ever have to deal with any potential headache that might occur if someone rips off someone else.
However, it's also pretty...boring that way. We have a fair amoount of time to get this draft done, so the extra time it takes to make trades is worth it, imo.
