Now that about a third of the season is done, which teams have surprised you in terms of where they're sitting? IMO, Abbotsford really surprised me while I thought Red Deer would be top 5 . Meanwhile, I thought I'd be last but I'm sitting in a playoff spot

Comparing current standings to my preseason predictions; Abbotsford are undoubtedly the surprise team so far (predicted 22 and currently 6) followed by Portland (14-2). Not counting my team of course (5-24).

HA! Wish I noticed this thread earlier. It feels good to be the surprise team. Although I didn't fare to well in the play offs.

Hardly your fault, you were up against a real powerhouse! haha - I got smoked just as bad in the 2nd round. I think a lot of that had to do with lineup variations week-to-week.

Yeah...maybe we should make all four rounds 2 weeks rather than just the finals. It would only shorten the regular season 3 weeks.

Yeah...maybe we should make all four rounds 2 weeks rather than just the finals. It would only shorten the regular season 3 weeks. Just to be clear, I wasn't complaining (or even making a suggestion). It was purely an observation....I had a TON of games in week 1 and smoked my opponent. But then the opposite occurred in week 2, and I got slaughtered. If the regular season was shortened, I think it a consolation playoffs for non-playoff teams could be considered, to keep things fun for everyone. We could even consider awarding a random draft pick to the winner of the consolation round (i.e., in addition to the random pick for the president's trophy winner and IFFHL cup winner). Anything that keeps people active is great, imo.

Think the current format works well, sure there may be some issues with uneven starts from week to week, but that's what makes the playoffs so difficult to win. And we all do know the schedules ahead of time, so can certainly plan for it ahead of the trade deadline to gain that extra flexibility.

And as our rosters expand, there will also be more opportunities to shuffle people from minors to pro team...
