Don't see a point in waiting if it doesn't impact anything (ie. even for the current playing teams, just don't process any trades they make on fantrax until end of playoffs) - but can review and approve the actual transactions. Gives the rest of us something to do while waiting for the remaining 4 teams to finish and keeps everybody active.

I was thinking of having our own star of the week and monthly but for our gm. I was also thinking of having the same thing for the worst gm. What does everyone think of such a idea ? I know about calling anyone out as bad gm is never a great idea. But My goal behind it, is to make easier on us to find the gm that aren't cut out as a gm in this league. If a certain gm never post, inactive, never make trade or reply to pm then it's our job to find a replacement. We could also have a three strike rule.
If a certain gm as been called twice in a row worst gm of the month. If for any reason he get called for a third time in a row then he's expelled from this league.
Please share your view on this idea.

After the playoffs I will be starting the GM award voting. I'm working on my acceptance speech already. As for worst gm; not a good idea on too many levels.

Thx for your input guy's. It was only a idea but I really want to have one Gm being nominated the best gm for that week. We would decide between the staff. If anyone have a better idea, please share your view.

is this the appropriate place to put suggestions?
if not, my first suggestion would be a section for suggestions. if so, then belay that.
1 thing I just considered that might be worth while trying to implement in upcoming seasons could be a waiver period or 2 during the season.
like our waiver draft, except only occurring for 2 rounds in total. I figure the best times to do this would be 1st, the NHL Christmas break. This might not be feasible as we all have lives and our own Christmas crap to deal with.
2nd time would be the nhl all-star/olympic break.
last time at the end of the nhl season.
rules being:
-that we use the current season rankings as of the time of the draft, reverse order. -2 rounds, as previously stated -to pick up a player, a team must waive a player. so it is a 1 for 1 swap, even if teams have open available spots.
this should allow for teams to add players that weren't on the radar at the supplemental draft. It would also allow teams who covet players who might not be playing well now that another team drops to add them.
it is just an idea, the rules aren't set in stone, just spit-balling. if the league isn't broke, don't fix it. I just thought it would add more activity and be fun to do during the season.

Yea considering our league hasn't even had one waiver draft yet, I think we should wait and see how it goes first before changing it.

I definitely see zaphod's point. If you want an active league, the best way to do that is to have mechanisms available to encourage activity. After I took over my current team on trade deadline day, I didn't make a single move since my team was at the cap and there is the waiver wire process. Basically, once you set your line up in this format, there isn't much to do, especially considering the cap makes trades more difficult.
A couple mini waiver drafts would certainly add some excitement and activity, and those picks might increase trading activity too.

We did have a 2 round waiver draft just prior to the start of the 13/14 season - objective was to try to allow teams to fill out their roster a bit more who may not have had enough starters. As it turned out, believe many picks still went unused and actually thought this served to make the strong and active teams even stronger. Good idea in concept, but only if everybody takes advantage of it.
Also, given that a player needs to be dropped to pick one up, may actually be more advantageous to wait and see who gets dropped first. So maybe add an option for a team to delay their pick and make it first come first serve for those who delayed and have pending picks - that can make it a bit more exciting and have everybody check in more regularly during the waiver draft period. One problem is that the drops may be just some low prospect that no one wants, so maybe add in that the drop must be somebody on the active roster (if the pickup is to be utilized on the active roster - so roster for roster and minors for minors only for that season - ie. a minor assigned waiver pickup cannot be called up for the duration of the season) May be too complicated to be practical, but just thinking aloud.

apparently I am blind, also. lol.
I was just spitballing on how to increase activity. I am not a huge trader, save for at the draft. I understand not wanting to reward certain GM's and punish others but if the goal is to increase activity, those GMs who aren't able or willing to be active tend to fall by the wayside eventually anyway.
There is not a lot you can do to help inactive GMs that isn't a detriment to the league.

If we have the room to take on any roster player then we shouldn't be force to get rid of a roster spot. I don't mind if we have the option of waiving a player for another but it need to be a choice we would have the space to do so.
