***Sorry for long post. Also sorry if you have read this already in another fantasy league you are in with me *** Fantasy hockey friends,
The short and sweet of it is I am no longer able to play in fantasy hockey.
Over two years ago, I sustained a serious concussion playing competitive hockey. I was bed ridden for four months as the headaches, nausea, depression (and so on) were too much to return to school/work. I started playing fantasy hockey to pass the time. I got to know some pretty amazing people along the way: Dave, Matt, Frank, Steve, Kimmer and Josh to name a few. It started with IFFHL and then the guys got me in in Puck Buddies and BBKL later on. I had a blast in all these leagues.
Fast forward to today, and I am starting to get my life back on track. The positives are I have been concussion-symptom free for close to a year now. The negatives are the time I used to have to check-in, make deals, draft/research players is fading quickly as life is changing for me (for the better). Kudos to you guys who are able to balance life with fantasy hockey. Well done.
Thing is I love fantasy hockey. I love all the teams I built/took over. It saddens me to think I need to resign as I am just getting started here. I need to make this choice though to be fair to everyone here in the leagues as you guys deserve a committed manager. If I stayed on this summer, I’d be flaky at best and questionable for next season. Giving a new GM a fresh start over the summer to hash out their new role I felt is a good way to transition.
And just to be clear, leaving fantasy hockey has nothing to with anyone particular GM or event. I am not upset at my team (I love my franchise); leaving has nothing to do with the game itself. Seriously, I had a lot of fun here.
I am confident with the team I leave behind the replacement GM will be left with assets to build on. All my team pages are up-to-date with current GP, draft picks, and Cap-hits as of the end of the 2014/15 season. I leave no burden on the next GM. A++ bookkeeping
You guys can contact me here on my personal e-mail if you don’t have my text/FB already: ericwelwood84@gmail.com
Regards,
Eric - Rebels GM

Good luck Eric, it's tough losing one of our initial founding members who have contributed so much to the success of our league. But I'm sure you'll get that urge again and won't be able to resist coming back to fantasy hockey one day - hockey addicts for life are we. Life certainly can get busy for all of us, but think eventually you'll get a good handle on things and settle into a nice medium amidst the day-to-day storm. Life does go in stages, so sometimes a little break is good to free the mind and broaden your perspectives a bit. Too bad, we'd just becoming a more veto-friendly league and will certainly miss your veto cards and speak-your-mind abrasiveness:) We haven't always seen eye-to-eye on some levels, but certainly respect you for what you brought to our league. All the best!

Can't believe that this day as finally arrived !! Early on I was trying to get Eric booted and even told Puck Buddy (Josh) not to bring him along since he was such a head case. Boy was I wrong, he was a pain to deal with at the start but fuck Eric grew up and change for the better. For the last year or so he's been such a good buddy of mine. Dave was right about gie Eric time and he'll change for the better. Boy wull this league be different with him gone. Now I can stand here and call eric my friend and a someone I would trust with anything surrounding hockey. I can't say it was easy making deals with him but I prefer being challenge and that's exactly what Eric brought to this league. He was a gm that would bring his 110% on a daily basis which I really appreciate it and I can't really be surprise by this news since he's a 110% or nothing type of gm. I'm the same way and don't worry I'm staying till Eric come back!! Now the only thing I can do is to wish Eric nothing but the best on his next journey which is the married life!! Good luck buddy since you'll need it. My only tip is to never give in and if you do make it count!! Farewell buddy and we shall talk on facebook time to time if your not too busy!! Ps.: Don't forget to invite me to one of your poker games!!

Hey guys!
I just wanted to pop in and say hi to everyone. It's me Eric the former Rebels GM.
Life is going great for me. Settling into a new groove with a new job, beautiful wife and 3 month old girl. Really happy right now.
Things are slowing down a bit for me and hockey is still a passion for passing the time.
Thanks for all the very thought messages! I actually just got to read these posts in this thread now.
Let me know how you all are doing. Is Jimmy still the team to beat?
Eric

If you're getting that urge again Eric, there look to be some teams available here again for you to take over and turn around - I'm sure you'll be up for the challenge. Unfortunately your team's successor (who has since left) literally destroyed the former team you had left behind. Trade Deadline this year just wasn't the same without your wheeling and dealing, and think our league really is missing that certain something since you departed.
Good to hear that all is going well with you, family does come first of course, but then again everybody does need their passions to keep them sane from the day to day.
League is becoming a bit more balanced this year, lots of contenders in the running - looks like the President's trophy is going to come down to the last week amongst five teams, which should be exciting.

Hey Jimmy yea I will think about becoming a GM once again. We had some good times here. I miss the fantasy hockey community experience the most.

Am I missing something here? Yep, wasn't referring to you.. it was Brandon who came in to immediately take over Eric's team, partake in the Entry draft, sell off a bunch of top assets, then quit after only a couple of months - nobody was too impressed with that

IMO, Djurgardens had perhaps the best waiver draft. Certainly no issues with what he's done...
Glad to hear life is treating you well, Eric.
