I want to hear what you guys think.

How did you feel about how you did in your draft ?

Did you get the guy you wanted ?

Favorite pick of the draft ?

Which player are you surprised got draft so high or low in the draft ?

Who do you think is the potential steal of the Draft ?



I feel i got a pretty solid haul with tons of potential in Barzal and Svechnikov and filled my goalie prospects up hopefully one of them pans out.

I wanted to get Gurianov at 19 but i got a player i think can be very good in Svechnikov, but i got the 2nd guy i wanted in Kylington.

My favorite was Samuel Dove-McFalls by Vancouver his name alone should make him a hockey player.

I was surprised Filip Ahl was drafted so high i hear he is good but 2nd round is high for him i'd say.

Potential steal for me is Kirill Kaprizov by Buffalo if he ever come to NA.

Was very torn between Marner and Strome, have seen both play live several times and they play very different styles. Went with Marner by an eyelash based on the overall tenacity that he brings each and every shift.

Was surprised to snag Saarela when I did, and was pleased that Joran Van Pottelberghe was still available when I grabbed him...hoping for more Hakan Andersson scouting magic there.

Aside from Marner, nothing to get overly excited about with the overall haul...a bit of a boom/bust flavor with the remaining picks. Will be interesting to see how the others develop, particularly the goalies since that is a glaring organizational weakness for my squad.

Frank the Tank stole my d-man by selecting Vainio with the second last pick of the draft! Other than that, I didn't "lose out" on any of the players I targeted...was looking at some players (Saarela, Cotton) who I felt were picked later than projected, but let's face it, outside the top 20-30 picks it's really a crapshoot!

I got Eichel, so I was very pleased with that. Now to hope ROR and E.Kane don't mess the kid up.

2 things surprised me, first in the NHL how Merkley dropped to 30th and second the drop of Zach Werenski in our draft. I understand young forwards are "the pretty girls" but that kid seems like a sure thing.

I told myself i wouldn't draft any D, but ended up with 2 even though i quickly switched Werenski for Konecny.

Defense should never go early in entry drafts.  They have lower upside, higher risk, higher salaries, general lower stats, longer development time.  Etc...etc.

Merkley fell to 30th for good reason.  He has great talent but he is a bro who doesn't even lift.

Strome, Bracco, Senyshyn, and Debrusk.

Senyshyn and Debrusk were not my main targets but the fell to a point where i loved the value so i snatched it up.


Overall very happy with the picks. Strome almost a sure thing and should get another good player out of the other 3.

Now let's talk about this draft. First off I'll simply list all my draft pick;

7th overall- Ivan Provorov - D
8th overall- Mikko Rantanen
17th overall-Denis Guryanov
32nd overall-Jack Roslovic
41st overall-Jordan Greenway
52nd overall-Rasmus Andersson
61st overall-Robin Kovacs
81st overall-Jens Looke
84th overall-Michael Spacek
105th overall-Andrew Mangiapane
114th overall-Lukas Jasek
120th overall-Veeti Vainio

To be fair I would grade me A for my draft. If anyone would grade me a lower grade then please tell me why? Even tho I had tons of pick I made then count and I would make a big bet that at least one of my last 5 pick has a long good career.

Now what surprise me;
1- How some goalie like Daniel Vladar went so early. Vladar was drafted two pick before Roslovic and I bet a goalie like Matej Tomek who was drafted at 68th overall as similar chance blossoming into a starter which is slim. Why take them that early ?
2- I can't believe it how far Roslovic and Denis Guryanov fell. I'm very happy they did since I got them where I predicted they weren't be available.
3- How many trades and activity there was in our draft. I just love how gm took their time and did exactly what they wanted to do and everyone respected each other.
4-I can't believe it I end up with more American then Canadien. THe funny thing when we were near my 81st overall pick I knew that I wouldn't take any Canadien since I all made up my mind who I was targeting which was the following
81st- Jens Looke
84th- Kirill Kaprizov (LW)
105th- Michael Spacek
114th- Ales Stezka/Erik Kallgren
120th- Veeti Vainio
So at the end of the day I decided to draft Michael Spacek at 84th overall instead of Kirill since I felt Buffalo wanted him there. Then when we were at 105th overall my target was Kaprizov but I decided not to draft him at all since of the Russian factor. He really piss me off when he didn't show up at the Minnesota camp since he was all ready at the U18 camp representing Russia. The funny thing Buffalo took Kaprizov at 111th overall which I really love his potential.
5th- I hate not drafting my boy Kirill Kaprizov but he just scared me since I really don't see him ever crossing the Ocean to play in the NHL.
6th- I'm very surprise I traded Faulk and that I drafted a D with my first pick but I had to do it to get my boy Ivan provorov.
All in all I love this draft and very happy with everything that happen. Anyone want to add to it ?

Guryanov only fell 5 spots i wouldn't call that very far Roslovic however fell a lot

I agree with everyone else TheNudge (Portland) does not have anywhere near an A draft .With 2 picks in top 10 of this draft plus another in top 20 one would expect to get some good players . I picked just before his first pick and I was deciding between Provorov and Zacha and took Zacha because he is bigger , meaner , dual position and with Devil's aging team Elias 39,Zajac dropping severely he should play on NHL faster and get more ice time. I drafted Vlader early because in this league many teams have shortage of goalies so it is nice to have bunch in your minors. Other than Vlader all my picks are over 6 foot 200 pounds unlike Portland's later picks. I got a G a D and 3 forwards to strengthen whole team. Only time will tell how good everyone drafted.
