Agree with you... Sobotka didn't play single game for Omsk this season (and he is healthy), and at the moment Omsk signed Roy, I though it was over for Sobotka in KHL. Remember, Russian KHL clubs can't sign more then five foreigners - and so far Roy took his spot in the team. Shipachev, IMO, will go only if he plays huge World Cup, and someone open the wallet for him - and that's not very likely to me, according to his role in national team. Shesterkin, signed new 3 year contract yesterday, and if he progress as hoped, that could be time we see him in NHL...

Russian national team for Channel One Cup (15.-18.12.):
G: Sorokin, Shesterkin, Bobkov D: Yakovlev - Belov, Ozhiganov - Kiselevich, Bereglazov - Antipin, Lyubushkin - Gavrikov F: Plotnikov - Datsyuk - Kovalchuk, Telegin - Svetlakov - Nichushkin, Barabanov - Tkachev - Kugryshev, Sannikov - Shalunov - Shumakov Plus: Osipov, Andronov
Injured: Gusev, Chudinov Dadonov and Shipachev didn't get a call, according to rumors they are in conflict with coach Znarok...
Kovie is back in national team, he plays his best season in KHL (39 GP - 22 G, 31 A - 53 P), and said there is possibility to go back to NHL after this season, but he said his priority is to play in the Olympics in 2018, so if the NHLers don't go there, Kovie will stay in Russia... Plotnikov also said he hopes to go back, but he has a contract until 2018.

You have any updates on Paigin? Stats show a rough start to the season after his breakout last year.

Until his injury, he had a solid start, he was up and down.. from first pair to third pair, sometimes he played more sometimes less, but injury ruined his season. Then he came back too early, injury again... His team should go deep into play-offs, and there should be time for hime to show more this season. If not, then he lost one important season.

Sorokin is 18-5, 93.1 SV%, 1.51 GAA, 4 SO - Fasth is now his backup - 9-2, 90.6 SV%, 2.01 GAA, 2 SO Shesterkin is 22-2, 94.3 SV%, 1.51 GAA, 8 SO - Koskinen is now his backup - 7-2, 93.1 SV%, 1.60 GAA, 1 SO Only Samsonov (12-1. 93.6 SV%, 2.06 GAA, 1 SO) is still backup to Koshechkin, but overall very surprising and nice development of young russian goalies so far this season...

How good is my prospect. (shesterkin) ? I know he's been plauimg on the best team in the entire league but becoming their starter at such a young should mean is that good. So what's your take on him ? How does he use his size? What's his weakness and strenght ? One last thing could he have the potential to be the replacement of Lundy one day and if so how soon do you think he'll come over ?

I didn't ask him if he's good because I know he's good. I just wanted to know if his number are inflated by playong on the best team or he's that good ? What's the avg of shot does he get per game ? If he get's between 15-22 shots per game then that's alot less impressive. Also I will not trade him unless I get something very good. I would trade him for a 1st 2017 unless it's top 3 and even then it would be hard.

Finally I get some reaction but I'm being serious when I say I wouldn't trade him for a mid 1st. But a top 3 or 5 would be extremely hard to turn down . All in all this kid has the potential to be a star and be more valuable then a simple 1st but I know a he s worth a simple 1st and that a top 5 is crazy talk. I know bro but fuck you all lol!! By the way I wish everyone a happy holiday and a merry Christmas.

When you look at the numbers above, keep in mind that KHL is very low scoring league. Also, as Frank mentioned, all three goalies play for 3 best teams, and quality difference between best and worst teams are much bigger then in NHL. I will try to reply to your questions, Frank, but I will write what Russian pundits say, they should know more then me :-) Shesterkin's avg of shots he gets is 26,62 per 60 min... His development is very surprising. If you remember, I wrote that plan was to use him as backup this season, split time next year and take over in 2018/2019. They didn't trust him enough to be backup, so they brought Ivannikov from Spartak Moscow before the season. And after half of the games this season - he is No1... Russians see him as future No1, he is signed until 2019, and if he plays 3 full season in KHL as starter (and 3 World championships, Olympics, World Cup) I think he should be ready for NHL until then. Sorokin, on the other hand, is even more surprising... Russians see him as more fragile, although he is better at the moment. Samsonov is younger, and his development is not so fast, but he is still great potential for the future.

Merry Christmas to you too, Frank. And everyone in the IFFHL.
PS: Love the KHL thread. This stuff is gold.

Thx for the quick reply and I assumed if he would have been on a worst team with the same stats then that would have been more impressive since the gap between the good and bad team are alot biggger then in the nhl. I guess they don't use the phrase any sunday since the top team rarely lose.

3 points in last 2 games for Paigin... Hope he is finally back...
Funny how some players simply can't play in NHL, but for some reasons play good outside NHL. Right now I am thinking about Nakladal, good before NHL, good for Czech national team, failed in Calgary and Carolina - and now 4 points in first 8 games with Loko Yaroslavl (other stats are also good)...
