In this thread I will try to post news more about players that are interested to our league then league itself. I would like to hear your comments, thoughts and maybe what else you would like to know about this league. What I will post here will be according to russian media, so maybe some news will be different then what we can find in english, but that way we can here "another side" of the story...

Let's start: German Rubtsov - signed two-year contract with Vityaz, although Flayers wanted him in CHL. Said his goal is NHL. Evgeni Medvedev - signed two-year contract with Avangard Omsk. I don't think we will see him again in NHL. Jiri Sekac (Ak Bars Kazan) and Alexader Khokhlachev (SKA) - both said some bad things about NHL and how they were treated here. Don't expect them back very soon. If at all... Derek Roy - signed one-year contract with Avangrad Omsk. Vladimir Sobotka - is coming back to NHL. Pavel Datsyuk - signed two-year contract with SKA. Biggest news in Russia for years... Alexei Gusarov - one of few players that won Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold and World Championship Gold is 52. Alexader Radulov - experts are still split whether he will have good season in Montreal, most of them think he will not...

SKA St. Petersburg is Golden State Warriors of KHL, probably best team in KHL ever:
Koskinen (Shesterkin, Ivannikov)
Khafizullin - Chudinov Yakovlev - Belov Rukavishnikov - Voynov Yudin - Zubarev Rykov
Gusev - Shipachev - Dadonov Kovalchuk - Datsyuk - Plotnikov Khokhlachev - Koskiranta - Moses Shirokov - Prokhorkin - Barabanov Ketov - Kabulkov - Dergachov
Tikhonov should sign in next days, Shipachev could stay (talks with Rangers, Panthers, Canadiens) - only one that they didn't manage to sign - and wanted him - is Sergey Kalinin - one more year with Devils.

Would be curious to hear more about Russian reaction to Datsyuk coming home. Is it really that big of a deal, given his age?
Curious on goalies Koskinen and Sheskertin.
Any thoughts on how the Zaitzev, or whatever his name is that the Leafs just signed, will do?
Great thread!!!!!

Paigin had great season with HC Sochi and now has signed with Ak Bars Kazan, one of big teams and favourites to win Gagarin Cup. So, one or two years he is away from Oilers if he can prove himself in Kazan (I think he will).
Datsyuk signed yesterday, but it was worst kept secret, everyone knew he would go to SKA. And how big it is? I will compere that will LeBron coming back to Cleveland. All hockey greats like Bure, Mogilny, etc welcomed him back, never saw something like that in Russia... And he said his next task is Olympic Gold in 2018. As you can see, SKA signed everyone they could (except Kalinin) from their national team, so most of them will play together for two years every day...
Koskinen was great in season 14/15 when SKA won Gagarin cup, and why he wasn't back in NHL is mystery to me. Last season was average, but he was good at World Championship. He again didn't sign in NHL, so he will stay in the best club in Europe and will be mentor to Shesterkin. There is a rule in KHL on number of games that backup goalie must play, so Shesterkin will see lot of action, and if everything goes to the plan it could be 50-50 split. So, Koskinen will stay until Shesterkin is ready to be No 1.
Zaitsev should be good signing for the Leafs. He is experienced, good player, played for big club in Russia, in market similar to Toronto. Maybe he will not be fantasy stud, but Leafs have a good player. And as I can see they don't expect miracles from him which is good...
Thanks for the comment, guys, appreciate it...
Personaly, can't wait for KHL schedule for next season (yes, it's still not out, and season begins in late August/early September). I want to see that SKA team in Zagreb against Medvescak!!!

Tikhonov is tricky one... After poor season with Chicago/Arizona, how much can he get on open market? I think not more then 800,000 per year? SKA can give him more without problem. Does he want to play in Olympics? If so, he will go back.. Still didn't find any his quotes, but when Kalinin didn't sign and if Shipachev goes, I am sure they will do anything to bring him back... If they want him on that Olympic team...
It's not everything so great with this league as is sound in previous posts, it's still lightyears behind NHL.
I can't help you with Russia trip, but you are all more then welcome to Croatia. And Medvescak's games, of course.

Shipachev, Dadonov and Belov didn't start preseason with SKA. Official statement is that they need more rest because they played World Championship. Unofficial - they try to find new teams in NHL.
For those which didn't already heard.... KHL expanded to China (obviously politics and big market)... Kunlun Red Star is new team.. 29th in the league..
Datsyuk's official contract is around 7,5 mil USD for two years... Unofficial who knows? Also, keep in mind it is tax free...

Datyuk signed for 7,82 mil for 2 years. He said that his knee(s) could not last for one more NHL season - and it would be over, and he wish to play at least 3 more (final one for his old club Avtomobilist). That's the main reason why he is back and that make sense to me. I was very surprised he left Red Wings with one year left (before they traded his contract). He can rest his knee now, probably will not take longer trips and play as much as he can in much weaker league.
Zignarevich, former owner of Atlant has troubles to explain where 1 billion roubles are gone from his accounts...
Golovkin and Guryanov are not planing to go back to KHL and it looks like Dadonov didn't find any NHL club and will be back with SKA.
